    ジャズっぽいホーンのループが手を替え品を替え出てきます。
    これがいわゆるピート・ロック節か。
    サンプリング・マシン
    爽やかな(4)なんかもさすがイースト・コースト、レイドバックはいたしません。
    JB'sの「The Grunt」をサンプリングした(7)、あと特に良いのは(10)か。

    なんとなくヒップホップ・ソウルとの共通点を感じましたが、よくよく見たらD.J.エディ・Fがエグゼクティヴ・プロデューサーだったのか。
    (14)ではいとこのへヴィ・Dもゲストで出演。

    東海岸ヒップホップの傑作。

    94年リリースのサード・アルバム。
    ジャズのサンプリングを用いるのはギャング・スターに通ずる東海岸勢の特徴なのかな。
    キャノンボール・アダレイの「Capricorn」をきれいにサンプリングした(1)からして素晴らしい。

    JB'sの「Escape-Ism」とラムゼイ・ルイスの「Sun Goddess」を強引に混ぜ込んだ(6)、レス・マッキャンの(7)、ドナルド・バードの「Place And Spaces」の(9)、ロイ・エアーズの(12)とジャズ・ファンクの大御所をサンプリング、この当時西海岸ではドクター・ドレ、スヌープ・ドギー・ドッグのPファンク賛歌とも言うべきGファンクが席巻していたことを思うとヒップホップの地域性がまだかなり生きていたなと思わされます。

    94年のR&B/ヒップホップはホントに豊作だったな〜と思い出される一枚。
