92年リリース、ファーサイドのファースト・アルバム。~
およそ西海岸ラップとは思えないサウンド・コラージュで、当時東海岸ラップで最も先鋭的だったデ・ラ・ソウル〜ATCQあたりと比べても遜色ない音作り。~

ドナルド・バードの「Beale Street」 、ルー・ドナルドソンの「Pot Belly」といったジャズからのサンプリングを多用、ラップの内容も西海岸定番の飲む打つ買うのギャングスタ・ライフの日常ではなく、わりとふつうの黒人青年っぽい立ち位置で好ましいですな。~
アルバムはジャズな(4)、ブラン・ニュー・へヴィーズが参加した(7)、ミーターズをサンプリングした(8)、そしてジミヘンの「Are You Experienced?」のシャコシャコいうギター部分をサンプリングした(12)がお気に入り。~

最近はラッパーもアイドル化したせいかソロ・ワークが多く、こうしたラップ・アンサンブルが聴けるケースは少なくなりました。~

ファーサイドは95年にセカンド・アルバム「Labcabincalifornia」をリリースしましたが･･･、その後のことはようわかりません。
