21 世紀版のウーマック＆ウーマックというべきか、アシュフォード＆シンプソンというべきか、はたまたビービー＆シーシー・ワイナンズというべきか、ソウルの都・フィラデルフィアからの新しい流れとしてザ・ルーツを筆頭にした生音重視の流れから生まれた、ファティン・ダンツラーとエイジャ・グレイドンの夫婦とそのバンドという形態のグループで、ここのところR&Bの動向に疎くなりつつある自分にとっては新鮮な驚きでした。~
夫婦のヴォーカルは明らかにゴスペルを基調としたもので、ラフな男性テナーとチャカ・カーン風味の女性ヴォーカルを盛り上げるバンドもしっかりしており、荒々しくならず、なおかつファンクの伝統を感じさせる演奏を繰り広げます。~
ぜんたいに品のある作品に仕上がっており、個人的にはフランキー・ビヴァリー率いるメイズを連想しました。~
(20)～(24)はなぜか短い無音部分が続きますが、ここらへんは意味不明です。~
70～80年代の香りを今に使える健全なニュー・クラシック・ファンクとして位置づけたい好盤。~
お昼どきでも違和感なくきけます。
